The first Super Bowl, called the NFL-AFL World Championship, was played on January 15, 1967 in Los Angeles. The Green Bay Packers beat the Kansas City Chiefs 35-to-10. That game was far from the social and economic powerhouse that Super Bowls have become. Today, the NFL has 32 teams, and besides a huge television audience, draws more than 22 million fans to its games.
